The European Liver Patient Association (ELPA) contributed in different ways to World Obesity Day 2025.
On March 4, it released a video interview with Dr Linnea Aitokari, a medical doctor specialising in general medicine and an accomplished researcher. Dr. Aitokari recently completed her doctoral dissertation on the prevalence and screening practices of liver diseases in children, focusing on conditions like metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and liver enzyme abnormalities.
Her groundbreaking research highlights the increasing prevalence of fatty liver disease in children, especially among those with obesity, and advocates for more precise and age-specific screening practices. This work is not only pivotal for advancing our understanding of pediatric liver diseases but also emphasises the importance of early lifestyle interventions in mitigating severe outcomes.
Currently practising at Valkeakoski Health Center, Dr Aitokari combines her clinical expertise with her passion for research, striving to improve healthcare practices and outcomes for children.
