Gateway to Better Health: the case for coordinated EU level action on obesity

ELPA representatives attended “Gateway to Better Health: The Case for Coordinated EU Level Action on Obesity” on March 4, 2025, at the European Parliament in Brussels. Organised by the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) this timely gathering, held on World Obesity Day, addressed the challenges of diagnosing and managing obesity—which is recognised by both the WHO and European Commission as a complex chronic disease and gateway to numerous other non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The policy event brought together EU policymakers, healthcare practitioners, and experts to explore potential policy actions within the 2024-2029 mandate, featuring patient testimonies and expert panel discussions on reducing the European burden of NCDs and developing a coordinated plan for EU action on obesity.
