At the VHPB technical meeting titled “Viral Hepatitis in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan” held on March 27–28, 2025, the European Liver Patients’ Association (ELPA) played a pivotal role in emphasising the patient perspective in the fight against liver cancer. Together with the participation of Ivana Dragojevic, ELPA Vice President, Milan Mishkovikj, ELPA Director, delivered a compelling presentation on March 28, focusing on the adequacy of awareness and prevention strategies for liver cancer among patients, their families, and at-risk groups. His insights underscored the necessity of patient-centred approaches in public health initiatives, particularly in enhancing health literacy and vaccine confidence to prevent viral hepatitis-induced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ELPA’s involvement in the congress aligns with its broader mission to advocate for liver patients across Europe. By participating in discussions on integrating viral hepatitis management into cancer prevention strategies, ELPA highlighted the importance of equitable access to screening, vaccination, and treatment services. Their contribution reinforced the call for collaborative efforts among patient organisations, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to achieve the WHO’s goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
