Living with stigma of alcohol dependance

Many liver patients suffer from stubborn prejudices. They are reluctant to tell colleagues, friends or employers about their condition. Besides the burden of being sick they also carry the burden of silence. Many liver patients are afraid to be called an alcoholic, while only a small percentage of liver diseases is really alcohol related. Preventing prejudices and breaking taboos can only be discussed by topic. Five liver patients were brave enough to share their experiences with tackling the alcohol stigma in front of camera of our member Dutch Liver Patient Association – NLV.
